The Stevie Wix Story
Stevie Wix Cool Beans Candle Company was born Pleasant View Candle Farm. It began as a hobby, originally founded by my sister in Pleasant View, Indiana. Fun fact, Pleasant View is such a small town that it doesn’t even have a stoplight! Eventually, I purchased the company from her with the intention of turning it into a thriving business.
I live in a small town also, but we have numerous stoplights! We also have a circle in the center of Downtown. I was driving around the circle one day when I noticed a “For Sale” sign on the door of the building where I had my very first job. I talked to my husband, and we took the plunge and bought the building. A few days after we bought the building, I was driving around the circle again, trying to think of a name for my business. There was a Stevie Nicks (HUGE FAN) song playing on the radio, so a name came to mind. Stevie after my husband, Steve; Wix as a play on Stevie Nicks; Cool Beans because my candles are made from soy, so there it was: Stevie Wix Cool Beans Candle Company!
I opened my business at that location and kept it open for 14 years until Steve and I retired and wanted to travel. We sold the building, but I continued making candles and selling them at various other shops, craft shows and online. Still feeling that the company could be so much more, I asked my son (a fellow small business owner and never one to sugarcoat anything) what direction he thought we should go. We brainstormed for what seemed like an eternity until one random day he called me and said two words: subscription boxes.
I’ve known the best and worst parts about buying candles for decades and knew exactly how to bring the highest quality, and now, greatest convenience to our customers!
